Il legame tra l’Italia e gli Stati Uniti è sempre stato speciale, sotto molti punti di vista. Se ci si ferma a riflettere un attimo, in effetti, non vi è cosa in America dove non ci sia un piccolo tocco o una minima presenza di italianità: dai prodotti alimentari nei supermercati, ristoranti, bar e gelaterie agli attori e comparse nei titoli di coda dei film di Hollywood. Dal nome e/o contributo prodigato per costruire un palazzo, quartiere, strada o negozio ai prodotti di lusso, ad una moda, ad un’innovazione. Da certe espressioni nella lingua americana chiamate Italics alle importanti personalità italo-americane presenti in quasi ogni settore nel grande paese d’oltreoceano, e così via. Miami e la Greater Miami Area, negli ultimi anni, hanno visto una crescita costante della presenza italiana nel proprio territorio. Una presenza fatta non solo di turisti, ma anche di tutte quelle persone che hanno deciso di tentare fortuna nel Sunshine State e che, con il loro impegno e dedizione in questo o quel campo, hanno saputo lasciare un’ “impronta italiana”. Grazie allo sforzo del Consolato Generale d’Italia a Miami e al supporto di organizzazioni ed istituzioni volte a promuovere l’italianità all’estero (come la Società Dante Alighieri e l’ODLI – Organizzazione per la Diffusione della Lingua Italiana), il 1 maggio 2014 il Senato della Florida ha adottato all’unanimità la Risoluzione che proclama Ottobre il “mese per le celebrazioni delle radici culturali italiane ed italo-americane in Florida”. Da ottobre 2014, ed ogni altro a venire, la città di Miami è dunque caratterizzata da svariati eventi, sia culturali che sportivi, dal tocco italiano: il Cinema Italy, il Gran Fondo (evento ciclistico amatoriale) ed attività enogastronomiche, per citarne alcuni. Tali iniziative sono la migliore testimonianza del ruolo svolto dalla nostra comunità nel Sunshine State e la Risoluzione rappresenta, indubbiamente, un concreto ed importante riconoscimento della nostra presenza in Florida.   OCTOBER: THE MONTH OF ITALIAN AND ITALIAN-AMERICAN CULTURE AND HERITAGE IN FLORIDA The ties between Italy and the United States have always been special, under different viewpoints. If you take a minute to think about it, there are few things in America where some aspect of Italian and Italian-American culture is not present: from food products in supermarkets, restaurants, bars and ice-cream shops to the actors and extras in the Hollywood’s movies. From the architect and/or contribution to build a given skyscraper, neighborhood or store to luxury products, trends and even innovations. From certain expressions in the American language (the Italics) to the important Italian-American personalities in various sectors that work and operate in the U.S. and so on. Miami and the Greater Miami Area, in recent years, have witnessed a constant growth of the Italian presence within their territory. Such presence is not just characterized by tourists, but also by all of those people that have decided to look for opportunities in the Sunshine State and that have been able to leave an “Italian mark” by exemplifying commitment and dedication. Thanks to the Italian Consulate in Miami and to the support of organizations and institutions that aim at promoting Italy and the Made in Italy abroad (e.g. the Società Dante and ODLI – the Organization for the Development of Italian Studies), on May 1st, 2014, the Senate of Florida unanimously adopted the Resolution declaring October as the “month of Italian and Italian-American heritage in Florida”.  Since October 2014, the city of Miami has been characterized by various events, both cultural and sports-related, having an Italian flavor: the Cinema Italy, the Gran Fondo (an amateur cyclist event) and wine-and-food activities, just to mention a few. Such cultural and sport initiatives are the greatest proof of the role played by our community in the Sunshine State.
